Kraft packaging for food and beverage brands

Compliance sets the floor here. Everything else, structure and print and finish, sits on top of a substrate and barrier decision that has to be right first.

Food and beverage packaging has to be food-contact grade and, increasingly, PFAS-free. Kraft Boxes runs no PFAS-based grease barriers, using clay coatings, water-based dispersions or PLA lamination depending on how wet and greasy the contents are.

What actually drives the spec

The constraints that decide the structure in this category, in the order they matter.

PFAS restrictions are expanding

Several US states now restrict intentionally added PFAS in food packaging. We do not run PFAS barriers at all, which removes the question rather than managing it state by state.

Grease barrier has to match the food

Dry baked goods need a clay coating. Fried and oily food needs a water-based dispersion. Wet plus hot plus greasy needs PLA lamination, which changes how the pack is disposed of.

Compostable claims need care

A PLA-laminated box is commercially compostable, not home compostable, and should not enter paper recycling. Labelling it simply compostable is a claim that will not survive scrutiny.

Multipacks and outers

A retail multipack carton and a distribution master carton are different specs, and the multipack usually needs a barcode the outer does not.

Questions from this category

Do you supply food-contact documentation?

Yes, with every food packaging order. It covers the substrate, the barrier coating and the inks.

Which barrier do I need?

Clay for dry baked goods, a water-based dispersion for oily and fried food, PLA lamination for anything wet and hot at the same time. Tell us the product and we will specify it rather than defaulting to the heaviest barrier.
